We primarily use blue/pink foam board insulation as the base material. It is laid in sections and cut or stacked to give the general area its shape. From there, carving and shaving of the foam is done to refine the contours and smooth out transitions between sheets. Once the contour is established, we cover the foam with a thick layer of vermiculite and white glue (thickened to a paste) and smooth it over the area and allow to dry. This gives a hard shell that provides the base for grass, bushes trees... etc to attach to.
